Any plant protection treatment is successful if it is well suited – in time and space – to the complex of the plant to be protected and the pest to be contained.
Population structure of the WCR beetles was studied at growth stages GS (HANWAY, I.J. 1966): 6-9,2 of maize.
Based on the time scale arrangement of
structural patterns, for adjustment of treatments
- in time: population density, sex ratio
and reproductive female rate,
- in space: vertical dispersion and movement
of beetles
supply the necessary data.
Taking the above approach into consideration, possibilities for reducing populations of WCR beetles by aerial spraying carried out in 1999-2000 in maize stands of different leaf area indices and canopy architecture are presented.
