As in previous years, monitoring of Western corn rootworm – Diabrotica virgifera virgifera – was set up in Slovenia also in the year 2000. Eventual presence of this pest was monitored on 50 checkpoints. The majority of checkpoints, i.e. 32, were placed along the border with Hungary and Croatia as this is an area with the most intensive maize production in Slovenia. Eight checkpoints were placed around the International Airport Ljubljana. The remaining 10 checkpoints are situated in the western part of the country, i.e. near the border with Italy. To each checkpoint one pheromone trap and one yellow sticky trap were added. The checkpoints were geographically determined using UTM network. Also, the exact co-ordinates of geographic longitudes and latitudes of the locations with traps were defined. During the monitoring which was performed for 2 months, the traps were checked regularly and replaced with the new ones if necessary. In Slovenia, Western corn rootworm has not been found on any of traps this years.
