In 1998 and 1999 monitoring of Diabrotica virgifera virgifera has been carried out by the Federal OfFice and Research Centre for Agriculture together with the responsibte persons for Plant Protection from the Agricultural Chambers for Agriculture in Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria. Observations were made in locations close to the International Airport in Vienna (Schwechat) and along the border to Hungary; especially at the border crossings (road and railway) several traps were set out. Pheromone (Hungarian origin) traps were used both in 1998 and 1999. Diabrotica virgifera virgifera was not found on basis of this detection survey.
